Campaigners against sex trafficking in Croydon were celebrating as a police unit’s was offered funding.

The Met Police’s Human Trafficking Unit looked to be closing as the police did not have enough money to keep it running.

But Jack Straw told the House of Commons last week that the Home Office and the Met Police have agreed to jointly fund the Unit for the next financial year with a review to ensure finance is available in future years.

Croydon is one of the most prevalent areas for sex trafficking, and CCAT, the croydon campaign against trafficking, welcomed the decision, having been heavily critical of the initial bleak outlook.

A spokeswoman said: “CCAT very much welcome this announcement which will enable the police to continue this vital work. CCAT will continue to support and work with our local police in Croydon to ensure that the fight against trafficking in our town will not falter.”

Brian - why keep telling us you don't like Croydon? I love it and I would have to be paid to go and live in boring old Tarring. My three stepgrandchildren, whose father is racist, are living in a little village, where he proudly told us all the schoolchildren were English. Those girls will get a real shock when they go out into the real world. Yesterday we went to a lovely French market in Croydon Town Centre. We bought some delightful French soaps and then ate from a stall serving paella or a potato, cheese and ham dish - delicious. Happy families were all milling around.

is it a crime to pass comment on how croydon has deteriorated on here? we dont have any shootings or stabbings like you have in croydon; and tarring is not boring at all our children love the change and wonderful fresh sea air
there is nothing wrong with people feeling they are in a secure, nice part of england with traditional english customs and pleasant ways that croydon once had.we have every type of restauraunt you could ever imagine so we have the best of everything here in tarring except the crime and grime that croydon now thrives on.thanks

What you're saying Brian is you don't have to have half of Asia living there to enjoy Asian cuisine ? quite right too!! the other thing you should remember Brian is this - Britain is the most overcrowded country in Europe... there will not be any 'safe' havens to flee to at the present rate of uncontrolled immigration into the U.K. - moving to the coast is the end of the line mate - there is no where else you can go - try remembering that at election times - voting for the same corrupt parties means much of the same and worse!!

The Netherlands was in fact 'the most overcrowded country in europe' ... we overtook them about 6 months ago - google it - it's all there for everyone to see. Also Brian - don't get drawn into a match on here with a few of the nasties lurking around - stick to your views, you know what's best for you and your family - good luck!!
