Waddon Community Football Club was officially launched by Croydon’s Mayor, Coun Jane Avis on Sunday morning when they played their first friendly match against Croydon Postal FC.
Waddon won the game 8-1 at Postal’s Trenham Drive ground in Warlingham as Waddon’s ‘tangerine and blue army’ prepared for their first season in Division Five of the Croydon Sunday League.
The team, managed by local resident Gerry Dickens, is sponsored this season by the Waddon Residents Association and all the players come from the estate.
The team is a product of the Community Action Plan that was officially launched at the Waddon festival in July.
Their league season kicks off in September and they will play their home games at Duppas Hill Recreation Ground.
