A memorial service has been held to remember Croydon’s former mayor who died suddenly.
Mayor Jonathan Driver passed away on New Years Eve after what is thought to be complications with his diabetes brought on by the flu.
The service for him was held at Croydon’s Parish Church in Church Street on Tuesday and was led by Reverend Canon Colin J Luke Boswell.
The ceremony opened with an introduction from Canon Boswell and the hymn Love Divine, All loves excelling.
Croydon’s dignitaries including Council leader Mike Fisher, Mayor Robert Askey and Croydon Council Chief Executive Jon Rouse all attended.
Mayor of Croydon, Councillor Askey read from Corinthians. He said: “Behold, I shew you a mystery; we shall not sleep, but we shall all be changed, in a moment, in a twinkling of an eye, at the last trump: for the trumpet shall sound, and the dead shall be raised incorruptible, and we shall be changed."
The service was closed with a blessing by Canon Boswell.
