A young couple from New Addington died and another man was taken to hospital after a car accident in Farnborough on Saturday morning.

Police, ambulance and fire crews all attended the scene but the driver of the Renault, 20-year-old Luke Maskell from Wolsey Crescent, New Addington, was pronounced dead at the scene.

His passenger, 16-year-old Amiee Phipps, a former Addington High School pupil from Croydon, also died in the accident.

Police say a blue Renault Megane was driving along Shire Lane about 9.20am when it apparently clipped the side of the road and then collided with a Citroen van travelling in the opposite direction.

A letter left at the scene by Luke’s mum, dad and sister said: “Why did this happen, you both left us with such happy moments we spent with you both on Friday night and Saturday morning.

“If only you left later.

“I knew when Amiee didn’t answer your phone something was wrong.

“How am I going to go on? Dad is devastated and so is Hayleigh your loving sister.

“Look after Amiee be happy up there.”

The driver of the van, understood to be in his 50s, was taken to the Princess Royal University Hospital in Farnborough with injuries to his ribs, chest and arm.

Shire Lane and High Elms Road were closed until 5.51pm on Saturday afternoon.

Bromley police say they have been called to 23 collisions in Shire Lane since April 1 last year.

There have been 10 crashes resulting in injuries and 13 only causing damage to the vehicles involved.
