Croydon MO’s 1 Addiscombe 4

Addiscombe recorded their first Surrey League Division One win of the season away at Croydon MOs on Saturday.

Addiscombe made an excellent start when Pete Mulford capitalised on a defensive error in the opening minute to run into MOs’ D and fire into the top corner from the edge of the D. It was an early contender for goal of the season.

Addiscombe went further ahead midway through the half when a Keith Yeates short corner was deflected into MOs’ net.

MOs rallied and were rewarded with a penalty stroke after Carl Andrewartha’s shot was stopped on line by a foot.

It was confidently put away by Steven Jeffreys.

After this point Addiscombe finally put in the performance they have been searching for this season. Leading scorer Phil Wise netted As’ third shortly before the interval, expertly chipping MOs’ keeper from the middle of the D after some fine work by strike partner Wray.

After the break Addiscombe went further ahead when Wise got his second as Addiscombe overwhelmed the MOs’ defence.

The result was then never in doubt and, but for some wasteful Addiscombe finishing, the margin could have been much wider.

A notable example was Wise missing a simple chance for his hat-trick.

This excellent team performance should kickstart their league campaign.

Addiscombe second XI went down 2-9 away at high flying Old Cranleighans Studio with goals for Ed Williams and skipper Danny Clark. The men’s third team drew 3-3 away at Richmond fours.
