Pete Bennett, winner of TV reality programme Big Brother 7, will join hundreds of charity runners when he waddles around Battersea Park in an inflatable sumo suit next month.

As well as raising cash for a good cause, organisers believe the event will create a Guinness World Record.

Educational charity Gemin-i.org is hosting the 5km fun-run on June 20, where they hope participants will break the world record for the largest gathering of people in a sumo suit, which is currently held at 200 people.

Commenting on why he felt he should get involved Mr Bennett said: “When I heard about the event I thought it sounded like a load of fun.

"The charity is doing lots of great stuff for people around the world using technology and as I'm someone with tourettes, I felt particularly close to a project Gemin-i.org have done called Diverse Links, which has enabled students to explore the issues of diversity, social exclusion and discrimination within their own community.

"I'll be there on the day and wearing the inflatable sumo suit, running all of the 5km. I can't wait.”

The charity said all money raised would go to buying computers to help educate and unite people around the globe.

Tamara Nelson, development manager at Gemin-i.org, said: “For every £250 that Sumo runners raise, we'll be able to connect one school in the developing world to the latest online educational resources. It's all about piling on the pounds to raise some pounds.”
