New car crime police team in Croydon

A new police unit has been formed to tackle a rise in car crimes in the borough.

The Motor Vehicle Crime Squad, headed by a detective superintendent, has two representatives from the Territorial Support Group and five PCs.

In its first week alone it contributed to the arrests of three known car thieves and has begun compiling information about the borough’s car criminals.

PC Danny Kendall said: “We want people in the borough to feel their cars are safe and secure. It is the worst feeling in the world to leave your car and come back and find it gone or broken into.

“Hotspots are areas like train station car parks and areas where cars are left for a long time.

“We urge the public to get in touch with us if they see anything suspicious so we can deal with it swiftly.”

If you see or know anyone who is involved in car crime call Croydon Police on 0300 1231212 or call crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.

I agree with b sewer tiddly little crimes are placed at the end of the queue in places like Croydon with its high level of crime,i used to shop there but the gangs and crime have turned the place into a bit of a hole, but I prefer Kingston or uptown in Westway a great shopping centre which I urge everyone to visit

Car vandalism is not considered to be a tiddly little crime and the police do investigate ALL crime. Not always easy to catch the culprits, though.

Stop your crying sweetheart cars are not important compared to people, and infact you can claim on your insurance like we all have to

Nobody is crying, sweetie-pie. Cars are important, houses are important, graffiti and all types of vandalism and anti-social behaviour are all important. Police will deal with all these. People are important, which is why the anti-social people who commit minor crimes are apprehended. In 2007 several anti-social scooter and mini moto riders received Section 59 warnings and some had their bikes confiscated. Recently a young man went to prison for causing hundreds of pounds worth of damage with his graffiti. The system works. Police are looking into car crime. A number of neighbours in our area have had their cars vandalised and they do report these incidents to police. Of course, sweetie-pie, you won't mind if someone goes and vandalises your home, car, stereo, garage, back garden, etc. etc., will you????
