Lambeth schools are now among the best in the country for arts, drama, music and dance.
Just under half of Lambeth schools now have an Artsmark award - the gong from national arts organisation the Arts Council, for excellence in arts in schools - compared to just 15 per cent of schools nationally.
Councillor Paul McGlone, Lambeth Council’s cabinet member for children and young people, said it showed a commitment in the borough’s schools to developing free-thinking, creative young people.
The latest round of awards - which last for three years - saw 16 of the borough’s schools receive an Artsmark, including secondary schools Bishop Thomas Grant and Dunraven, and Hitherfield and Streatham Wells primary schools.
