'Potential terrorists' let into the UK by Mitcham mum and Croydon Home Office worker

Nearly 50 potential terrorists or criminals were let into the UK after a Mitcham immigration officer doctored asylum applications and falsified computer records, a court heard.
Aliya Ali, 39, of Windemere Road, was sentenced to five years imprisonment today at Croydon Crown Court after pleading guilty to 12 counts of misconduct in a public office.
A total of 44 asylum seekers who should have been deported are thought to be unaccounted for in the UK as a result of the mum-of-two’s deception.
The court heard how Ali claimed she only broke the law to help Asian families settle in the country and earn a living.
But while handing down the sentence, Judge Ruth Downing said: “You say you only did it to assist because they wanted an honest life in this country.
“But you had no idea whether they fitted into that category or whether, hidden among them, were criminals, terrorists or the like.”
She added: “I am genuinely shocked. This is a most serious offence. You single-handedly decided on a course of action that enabled people to break the rules.
“Many speak of your high standing in the community and you should reflect on the disservice you have done to your community. It was a breach of trust in a senior position and you were promoted in the course of criminal activity.”
Ali was employed as a senior Home Office case worker in the immigration department at Lunar House, Croydon.
Miss Joan Mitchell, defending, said: “She is utterly ashamed. Her family has been torn apart and her husband may have to give up his job because of the children.”
The court heard how investigators had spent two months searching for information about the asylum seekers, mostly from Sri Lanka and Afghanistan, that were helped by Ali.
Only five of the 49 have been traced.

Nothing new; there have been several cases involving UK Entry for money, some reported in the Croydon Guardian. It's noteworthy that most cases seemed to involve those with apparently foreign names.

However some of the view expressed above are pure racist and bigoted.
If you have a problem with "foreigners" or "Muslims" occupying jobs in the UK which you believe should be for "white" people then maybe you should bring up your children to work hard, show respect to the community at large and not become binge drinking louts!.

I have a life and my childhood/schooling was spent in Croydon. That Croydon is is now a distant memory with police escorts at bus stops outside schools,accompanying tram inspectors etc.

You started your comment on here, so well, with a statement I think is well thought out re: the sensationalising of this case, but then proceeded to go downhill into racism & bigotry. "white people's children are binge drinking louts". Then you state "All us foreigners are here taking back the wealth the Empire stripped from foreign lands. When we're done we'll go and no sooner"... Why would you say such a stupid thing? How is this "integrating"? You clearly state you are here to take from us & you resort to rudeness when views are expressed which you don’t agree with & then expect the UK to be a tolerant land?

The deaths don't get reported in the press because, let's face it, no-one really cares if the binge-drinkers die - and why should they?

Well quite, I'd rather have potential terrorists over binge drinkers any day. At least the potential terrorists only blow up the tube network once in a blue moon. But the binge drinkers get wasted and get into fights every Saturday night! . And yes people *do* die. I do hope that when Aliya Ali has done her time in prison she is deported. I also hope that people realize that Britain will be regained whether 'British Muslim' likes it or not and you will all have to become Christians which, is the religion of THIS country. When in Rome and all that. Let's be very honest here if we were all leaving the West to go East we would have to change everything that we hold dear, which is why not too many British people want to go there.
