A mother is threatening to pull her child out of school and home educate him if something isn’t done about what she says are bullies in his class.

Luz Ramirez, 33, has seen her son come home with multiple injuries from bullying, which she claims are not being addressed at his school.

Ewan Alvarez, 8, is in year 4 at Kingsley Primary School in Thomson Crescent and has, according to his mother, been the subject of constant bullying for almost a year.

The school says it has addressed Miss Ramirez concerns and it has a strong anti-bullying campaign that is accessible to all students.

Miss Ramirez said: “I have made loads of complaints to the school but nothing has been done apart from moving Ewan to a different table in his class.

“It has got to the point now where Ewan does not want to go into school and when he does, he comes back with injuries from being attacked.

“He has come back with a swollen lip from when he was held down and had a recycling bin thrown at him, a swollen finger when he was in a fight with the other children and a cut to his head when he had a pen thrown at him.

“I do not know what to do, I have complained and complained but nothing his being done.

Miss Ramirez, who works at the school’s after school club, is now seriously considering pulling her son out of the school and home schooling him until the school takes action.

Shirley Gardener, business manager for the school said: “I have spoken to both the headteacher and Ewan’s head of year and this was something that was addressed last week.

“We have a zero tolerance policy when it comes to bullying at Kingsley Primary School and have a scheme called Place To Be in which children can talk to a counsellor if they do not want to talk to a teacher.

“We have a very strong ethos regarding bullying and work very closely with parents to ensure the children are happy here. We want children to feel safe in their school environment and take any claims about bullying very seriously.”
