A deflected effort just before half-time and two second-half strikes condemned Corinthian Casuals to their second defeat in as many games on Tuesday.

Casuals had started the game brightly and their passing and movement was causing Croydon all sorts of problems at the back, yet it was a mistake by Ross Flitney - the former Barnet Keeper and now Croydon man - that almost gifted Casuals the lead when he dropped a seemingly simple cross on 15-minutes.

The ball fell to Yousef Metwali but the centre half could not get control of the ball to send it home.

Flitney redeemed himself later as on 28 minutes, a Glenn Boosey free kick was met by the head of Saheed Sankoh but his well placed headed was fantastically saved by the Croydon number one, who was able to push the ball just wide of its post when it seemed destined for the back of the net.

On 36 minutes, Croydon’s Gary Noel hit a cross face shot past Andy Wynn in the Casuals’ goal, but unfortunately for him, just past the post.

While straight down the other end, Byron Brown crossed the ball from the left which found Tyrone Myton at the right of the area- Myton let loose with an effort which went just past the keepers’ right hand post.

Croydon then took the lead in somewhat fortunate circumstances on 39 minutes. Bentley Graham struck the ball from just outside the area which took a wicked deflection of Brown to leave Wynn rooted to the spot as the ball creped into his bottom right hand corner.

The second half was largely a one sided affair as Casuals struggled to get to grips with their opponents and play their football the way the side did in the first half.

On 56 minutes Casuals had the inside of the post to thank that they were still in touching distance of their opponents, but Croydon came on strong thereafter.

A defensive splitting pass played Ben Godfrey through on 60-minutes, and Godfrey proceeded to take the ball round the on-rushing Wynn and score to give the hosts a two goal cushion.

Six minutes later, Rory Hill sealed the points as his right footed low drive from the edge of the area, nestled into the bottom left hand corner beating the outstretched arms of Wynn.

Justin Gregory and Byron Brown for Croydon and Casuals respectively, were both given their marching orders late in the game after both receiving second yellow cards as the game heated up in the later stages.
