Three lucky Kingston and Esher charities were given a timely boost by a New Malden golf club just in time for Christmas.

Last Thursday, Malden Golf Club presented £4,100 to each of three charities, following its annual charity day in June where it raised a total of £12,300.

In the past 15 years the event has raised a total of £174,400 for charities in the Kingston and north Surrey area.

One of the recipients this year was the Princess Alice Hospice, Esher, which provides specialist palliative care services for patients in south-west London and Surrey.

Lisa Flanagan, community and event fundraiser for Princess Alice Hospice, said: “£4,100 is an amazing amount of money and could fund 42 visits to our patients’ homes by our community Princess Alice nurses.

“The Malden Golf Club has helped to make a real difference to the charity and we hope other golf clubs, schools, sport and social groups will be inspired by their example.”

Bedelsford School in Grange Road, Kingston, which provides facilities for children with a wide range of physical and learning disabilities, and Action for Children in Kingston Hill were also thankful recipients.

At the presentation each of the charities explained to sponsors and golf captains how they will put the money to good use.
