Police in Wimbledon town centre have been moving on problem street drinkers and increasing patrols at school closing times in a bid to cut antisocial behaviour.

Antisocial behaviour orders could also soon be given to the main offending drunks and rough sleepers banning them from coming to the area, after the Hillside ward safer neighbourhood team (SNT) were given training from a homeless person unit in Westminster.

Officers from Hillside Ward SNT have been combating antisocial behaviour as one of its priorities for the past three months, along with burglary and pickpocketing.

To combat burglary, increased patrols have been made by both uniform and plain clothes officers.

Crime prevention advice has also been handed out to potential theft victims, with handbag alarms and bells distributed to many residents as well.

Crime in all the target areas went down, however there was an increase in burglary, a trend followed throughout the borough.

Antisocial behaviour in general, burglary and theft from motor vehicles were chosen by the ward's panel - which met at Elys Department Store last Thursday - as priority areas for the next three months.
