This monstrous eight stone butternut squash is the talk of the town, according to the green-fingered Tolworth residents who dug it up.

Emma and Toby Simmons decided to heave it out of their allotment plot to carve it up in time for a Halloween and were shocked at the weight of it.

The giant weighs more than their three-year-old son Freddie, who is said to be quite impressed with the squash.

Mrs Simmons said: “It’s the talk of the neighbourhood, we just can’t believe it. I think it’s grown to that size because we’ve just left it and done nothing with it. I don’t know if we’ll ever get one as big as that again although a few of them are getting there.

“My son can’t quite believe the size of it, we’re looking forward to carving it up.”
