A Croydon musician faced fury from Cheryl Cole fans after accusing her of ripping off one of his songs on her first solo album.
Frank Vincent from Frankmusik said the star’s song Boy Like You featuring Black Eyed Peas star Will.i.am was the same as his remix of Fleetwood Mac’s Little Lies.
Mr Vincent, from Thornton Heath wrote several outraged messages on social networking site Twitter saying he had been “trackjacked” by Cheryl Cole writing the song “is a complete rip off of a track I did”.
Within minutes of his posts on October 22, he received a deluge of messages from outraged fans.
One fan Gillian Morgan wrote: “I’m sorry son, but listen here... Will.I.Am did not steal ur song, nor did Cheryl Cole... Do u actually think they’ve heard it?” and Lewis Rhys-Jones asked: “Desperate for promo, much?”
The former beatboxer quickly backtracked, telling Cole's fans that he had no problem with the X Factor judge.
Mr Vincent told a London newspaper: “If you had seen the absolute backlash I got for making a point. All the idiots were saying, ‘You both nicked it from Fleetwood Mac’. That’s obvious – but its the fact he did it in the same way that I did. I wasn’t aiming at Cheryl.”
Cheryl Cole declined to comment on the issue.
Mr Vincent, a London College of Fashion drop out, has just recorded a cover of Amy Winehouse’s Rehab for a compilation album released at HMV.
He launched his own album Complete Me earlier this year.
