Two would-be robbers who claimed they were armed demanded cash from security guards at a Banstead bank but fled without any money.
The men pushed over two security guards as they were about to refill an ATM at a bank in the High Street just after 10pm on Wednesday, November 25.
The men – who wore dark clothing and had most of their faces covered – said they were armed and demanded money.
When they realised there were numerous security systems and the two guards could not simply hand over the money, they left empty-handed.
A police dog search team and a helicopter were immediately sent to search for the suspects. Officers believe the two men fled on foot along the High Street and into a nearby alleyway leading to a residential area.
Detectives from Surrey Police are appealing for witnesses to the attempted robbery.
Senior investigating officer, Detective Chief Inspector Jon Savell, said: “Although not seriously injured, we cannot forget that two innocent victims were subjected to a frightening ordeal by these suspects and it is vital we find and arrest these men as quickly as possible.”
