NHS Surrey wants patients, staff and residents to have their say in a national consultation on their rights, due to be included in the NHS Constitution.
The new patient rights relate to waiting times, treatment in 18 weeks and urgent referral of suspected cancer within two weeks, and the provision of information.
Wendy Lockwood, associate director of public engagement, said: “The constitution makes a number of pledges and gives patients and staff rights and responsibilities. It is important that people understand that with rights comes responsibilities.
“For example, if people have the right to choose their healthcare then they also have a responsibility to use the NHS appropriately and keep appointments. If the NHS belongs to us all then we all have an important role in its regard.”
The consultation ends on February 5 next year.
