A girl was rushed to hospital for treatment to serious injuries after being hit by a car outside New Malden station on Sunday.

The 17-year-old was taken to St George’s Hospital as a priority, after suffering severe head injuries during a traffic collision in Coombe Road on Sunday, December 6, at about 6pm.

Another female was treated at the scene for minor injuries and taken to St Helier Hospital as a precaution.

According to an eyewitness, the incident created a significant amount of disruption to traffic in New Malden High Street.

Police collected witness statements for more than two hours after emergency services arrived at the scene.

Gareth Jenkins, whose journey on the 213 bus was halted by the accident, posted a message on social networking website Twitter saying: “Well done 213 bus driver in New Malden and guys from bus stop for their level-headed action after nasty looking accident.”
