British Transport Police are appealing for witnesses after two sets of rival football fans clashed at Mitcham Eastfields train station last Sunday.
The fight, which took place at approximately 8.50pm, is thought to have been between about 10 Arsenal and Chelsea supporters.
Detective Constable Darren Stenning, one of the investigating officers, said: “We believe the two sets of fans exchanged words on the train as the 8.36 London Victoria to Dorking Southern service pulled into Mitcham Eastfields.”
The fight on November 29 spilled on to the platform and continued on Eastfields Road. The men had run away before police arrived at the scene.
Detective Constable Stenning said: “We believe a number of people on board the train and at the station witnessed this incident, including mothers with young children who had to move to avoid the fight.
“It’s extremely important that we build a clear picture of what took place. If you were on the train or at the station and witnessed the incident then I urge you to come forward and talk to us.”
Anyone who witnessed the incident or who has any information should call on 0800 40 50 40, quoting reference B8 or 4/12/09, or call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
