A teacher found in a “compromising position” with another teacher by two pupils has been given a slap on wrist and allowed to carry on teaching.

PE teacher Robert Grealish was reprimanded at a General Teaching Council hearing for being discovered in a semi-naked clinch with another teacher at Joseph's College in Beaulah Hill, Norwood.

The GTC misconduct committee found that he was guilty of a "single, isolated incident of very poor judgment".

The incident was witnessed by two 13-year-old pupils at the school on the December 9 2008.

The GTC report said: “We are satisfied that the conduct of Mr Grealish in relation to the facts that we have found proved involved a breach of the code of conduct and practice for registered teachers.

“Accordingly we are satisfied that Mr Grealish is guilty of unacceptable professional conduct.

“We consider this to be a case when Mr Grealish has by his actions placed at risk both the reputation of his former school and the reputation of the profession. We have decided that in those circumstances it would not be proportionate to make no order.

“We are satisfied that this was a single isolated incident of very poor judgement and we accept on the evidence presented to us that it is unlikely to be repeated.

“We have decided that he has shown real remorse and once these matters were properly discussed at the school he was entirely open and honest with the school and in his subsequent teaching at other schools and with the committee.

The reprimand will stay on Mr Grealish’s work record for two years.
