Councillors and residents discussed plans to build a new health care centre in Raynes Park at a community meeting in St Matthew’s Church, Durham Road, on November 24.
Raynes Park councillor Rod Scott chaired the meeting, during which members of the public questioned a panel of experts.
They included GP Dr Howard Freeman, chief executive of NHS Sutton and Merton Bill Gillespie, planning officers from Merton Council and representatives from architects Mountford Pigott.
The planning application, which has recently been submitted to Merton Council for the site at Selsey House and 1 Lambton Road, proposes to move two existing GP services into a new health centre.
The existing buildings would be demolished under the plan, and a new building put up which is expected to include a dental surgery, a pharmacy and a cafe kiosk.
Mr Gillespie said NHS Sutton and Merton support the application, which will be considered by Merton’s planning committee this Thursday. If permission is granted, the project should take 20 months to complete.
Dr Howard Freeman said: “The centre would be excellent for the people of Raynes Park. It would provide 21st century health facilities that are fit for purpose for 25 years.”
