Kingston Council staff are positive about their jobs but resistant to the organisation’s efforts to save money by restructuring, according to a biennial survey of employees.
The 2009 staff survey, carried out in partnership with Kingston University, showed only a quarter of staff who attended events about the One Council programme were positive or very positive about it, dropping to just 10 per cent among those who had not.
Professor Charles Jackson presented the results to last week’s executive committee meeting, and said: “I think there is still something of an uphill battle to convince people about the need for change.”
However, 65 per cent of non-schools’ staff said they were satisfied with their jobs, rising to 71 per cent among school staff, and 52 per cent were satisfied with their job security, largely unchanged since 2007, despite the recession.
Professor Christine Edwards said: “These results were overwhelmingly positive and they are very positive in the current situation. We see job satisfaction plunging around the UK.”
