As a result of the rapid growth in students applying, Norbury Manor Business and Enterprise College is building an exciting new Sixth Form Centre. Currently, the Sixth Form holds 120 students; the new building will hold 250.

The new state of the art Sixth Form Centre will have more classrooms and a bigger common room for all pupils; the current one is bursting at the seams. There will also be a Sixth Form teaching block and a separate enterprise centre for local schools to visit in order to develop their enterprising skills. Young local people starting up new businesses will be able to take advantage of the hot-desking facilities.

Creation of the new £9 million project will also enable an increase in courses available. At the moment the Sixth Form offers a wide range of A-level subjects and a limited choice of BTEC subjects. Areas such as Textiles, Media, Business, ICT and Health & Social Care will also fully benefit from the extension of new suites and multi-purpose classrooms being built. In addition to this, the school is bound to be hiring new teachers and other new members of staff.

The new two storey building sounds like it’s going to be a great success; the fact that it will have a lift installed reveals how large scale it will be. The students and teachers are crossing their fingers in hope that the building works meets the deadline and is open in time for the start of a new school year in September 2010. It is promising to learn from Mr R. Bradley, the Head of Sixth Form, that the building works are already “ahead of schedule”.
