Calling all Crystal Palace fans. The search is on to find the fans captured in a snapshot of the Selhurst Park terraces more than 30 years ago.

The picture was taken by Palace photographer Hy Money on one of her first trips to the football ground.

The mum-of-four was inspired to embark on a career in sports photography after a trip to watch Palace play at home in 1973.

That was the start of a love affair for Hy who became a pioneer for female sport photographers.

Her career has spanned three decades, including a spell as Palace's official club photographer.

It was one of Hy's shots of the crowds on the terraces in 1973 that has promoted the search to find the people captured in the photo.

The photo was published in a newspaper in Brighton, publicising her recent exhibition at Wealdon House in East Grinstead.

A reader recognised one of the faces in the crowd and sent the newspaper cutting to his friend Robin Stanley.

Mr Stanley, who now lives in Walton on Thames, Surrey, is pictured in the centre of the crowd wearing a shirt, tie and duffle coat.

The ardent Chelsea supporter, who is 61, was taken aback when he received a copy of the picture.

He said: "Palace were either playing Chelsea or it was a cup tie. I used to pop over there if it was a cup tie. "A friend of mine, who I used to work with, lives in Brighton and saw the picture.

"I couldn't believe it. I'm 30 years older but you can still see from the features that it is me.

"I was there on my own that night. I don't remember the picture being taken. You get flashbulbs flying everywhere but you don't take much notice of it because you're watching the teams and soaking up the atmosphere of the game."

John Wood, curator at Wealdon House, is now keen to trace all the fans in the picture who are still alive to attend a celebration at the gallery in the new year.

Hy will be attending the event to take another photo of all the group.

Her dream job may have never materialised but for a chance phone call from her then-husband's cricket club.

Instead of taking his children to watch Palace play Liverpool he opted to play cricket and sent his wife to the match.

She faced a lengthy battle for recognition in what was a male-dominated industry.
