Croydon Schools' Football Association's borough sides fared well in cup-ties at the weekend, writes David Lomas.

The U11s got off to a dream start in their English Schools' Area Eleven Patrick Haugh Trophy away to North Kent Schools, when Sam Driver (Whitgift) put them ahead after just seven seconds.

After North Kent equalised, Tosin Bankole (Whitgift) restored Croydon's lead just before the break and after the hosts equalised for the second time to take the tie into extra time and penalties, Croydon keeper Lewis Higgins (Edenham) came to Croydon's rescue, by saving two penalties as Croydon went through 3-1.

The U14s conceded three goals in the second half as they crashed 4-0 to North Kent in an English Schools' FA Area Eleven Eagles Trophy tie.

But the U11s earned themselves a home tie against Sutton after a 5-0 victory against Ashford in the Gills Shield match on Saturday, after goals from Alex Wynter (Davidson) (3), Louis John (Ryelands) and Gideon Achempong (Woodside).

Croydon's U16s were 3-0 winners of the Surrey Schools' Cyril Black Trophy, with a convincing performance against Sutton at Croydon Arena on Monday.

The Croydon goals were scored by Billy Chincharo (Lanfranc), Tom Weber-Macartney and Danny Simpson.
