Barnes 34 OMW 15

Midwives were overpowered by a strong Barnes pack on Saturday as their hosts continued their dominance in the division.

Barnes took an early lead from a line-out 10 metres out, when they set up a driving maul which was expertly controlled and ended with flanker Tim Roles going over for a score converted by Lewis.

The hosts added to their tally 20 minutes later with an almost identical copy of their first try, but although the ball was dropped over the line, it went backwards and was grateful fallen on by prop Matt Clarke for the try.

Mids closed the gap five minutes later when Mark Macaskill outpaced the covering defence to score, but Neil Chamberlain missed the subsequent conversion.

Barnes added a further two tries either side of the break, first through Jon Copp and then number eight Dave Favill touched down after he was given a free run in. Lewis added the conversion.

Centre Phillip Oliver increased the hosts lead ten minutes later with a converted try and a Lewis drop kick put Barnes into an unassailable lead at 31-5.

But Mids refused to give up as Nick Taft crashed through two tacklers on the line to touch down, before Neal Chamberlin scored right at the death, but it was too little too late as Barnes hung on.
