Whyteleafe continued their climb up the league on Saturday, writes Mickey Taylor.

They travelled down to the south coast to face a Hastings which had not lost in the nine games since former Everton keeper Neville Southall took over as manager.

But the Leafe proved to be good for their opposition as they recorded a 2-1 victory. The win sees them just one point off a play-off place.

They face Cray Wanderers this coming Saturday in what has become a massive game.

The Leafe scored first goal when Lewis Taylor volleyed home on 14 minutes. Hastings levelled on 55 minutes through Simon Rowland. Both sides went for the win they needed to stay in touch with the top six. It was Whyteleafe who found that all-important goal three minutes from time when Mark Tompkins burst through the home defence to score the winner.

Croydon FC shared a 1-1 draw with Tooting and Mitcham at the Arena. The Trams have improved and avoiding relegation now seems to be within their grasp.

They took the lead when a Bronek Dabrowa header brought the best out of the Tooting keeper, only for top scorer Ashley Martin to follow up and score on 33 minutes.

But Tooting came back into the game just before half-time when their top scorer John Hastings found the net.

The draw leaves Croydon just four points from safety.

Dulwich Hamlet beat Ashford Town 2-1 at home thanks to a double from Charley Side on 11 and 36 minutes.

But the Hamlet had to withstand pressure in the second-half, more so after Ashford reduced the arrears with a Jones penalty on 65 minutes.

Luckily, Hamlet held on to take the points.

AFC Wimbledon had a hard time of it down at Fetcham Grove where they were held by a very determined Leatherhead side in a 1-1 draw.

The scorers were Steve Sarget for Leatherhead on 15 minutes and the equaliser for Wimbledon came from a Ryan Gray penalty just before half time.

In midweek the Dons progressed in the Bryco Cup to the fourth round with a win over Cray Wanderers 3-2 at home.Croydon Athletic were without a fixture.
