I understand that business rates go to central Government not directly to the local council. Then central Government distributes this money throughout the country as it sees fit.
While Christmas lights do brighten the dark winter days and their demise is regretted, many of your readers are concerned about more serious cuts in public services.
The provision of public toilets ought to be high on the council's list of priorities; the closure of them can affect the health and wellbeing of residents and visitors alike.
Surely the savings in money did not warrant the distress this action has caused?
