Croydon Schools U11 players figured prominently in Surrey Schools double 5-1 wins over Kent Schools and Inner London Schools at the end of last week, writes David Lomas.
Last Thursday, at home to Kent, at Woking, Surrey coasted to a 5-1 win, with six Croydon boys in the line-up. Alex Wynter (Davidson) and George Gomez (Ridgeway) got on the scoresheet and there were promising county debuts for Brady Almandras (Ridgeway), Jamie Backshall (Smitham), Danny Wilkinson (Atwood) and Harry Osborne (Davidson).
Gomez grabbed the limelight against an Inner London side, at the John Roan ground, Kidbrooke, on Saturday, coming on as substitute and scoring twice in a 5-1 win.
Croydon Schools’ unbeaten U12s bid for their first trophy tonight (Wednesday), when they entertain Woking in the Surrey Schools Gibson Cup Final, at Croydon Arena (KO 7.30 pm).
Earlier in the day, Croydon’s U11s take on Kingston Schools at Greenacres Sports and Leisure Club, Warlingham (KO 6.30 pm) in a Surrey league match.
A win for Croydon would mean that a draw against neighbours and rivals Sutton in their final match on April 27 would clinch the title.
The Primary Cup Final, between Byron and Woodside, is due to take place at Forestdale Primary School tomorrow (Thursday) (KO 4pm).
On Saturday, the CSFA stage their outdoor boys five-a-side championships at Monks Orchard School, the Glade, Shirley. 20 U11 schools will be taking part.
Play is due to commence at 9.30 am with the final pencilled in for 12noon.
The U12s have another opportunity for winning a trophy, on Monday, April 18, when they host south-east Sussex schools in the English Schools South-East area Patrick Haugh Trophy Final, at Croydon Arena (KO 7.30 pm).
