Four years ago Blake Aldridge won the World Junior Diving Championships, in 2012 he aims to add an Olympic gold medal to his collection.

Blake, 22, from Croydon, is part of Great Britain's diving team, and is excited at the prospect of competing in the London Games and hopefully winning a medal in his own backyard.

The 2012 Olympics will be particularly poignant for Blake as it will be the last games he will compete in professionally and the opportunity to compete in his home city is a mouthwatering prospect.

He said: "For me the news is especially good because it's going to be my last Olympic Games, it's going to be really nice to have it in my home town, it gives me extra motivation.

"To win a medal at the 2012 Games would be the top thing that would ever happen to me. It is all that I have ever wanted, I've been working towards achieving that goal my whole life." Blake is also looking forward to seeing the benefits of the investment that will go towards improving training facilities in south London.

"Facilities are going to be improved all around London. I train at Crystal Palace and the diving boards are wearing out and half of the lights don't work, so the money that is used to improve facilities is much needed."

Despite the prospect of competing in front of home support, Blake is concentrating on the competitions prior to the 2012 Olympics.

"My next major competition is going to be the Commonwealth Games next year and then the Beijing Olympics in 2008, then I will be concentrating on London."
