Big Brother contestant Vanessa Layton-McIntosh's hopes of winning the reality TV show were dashed last Friday when she became the seventh contestant to be evicted.

The 19-year-old, from West Croydon, was surprised to find she was up for eviction after Big Brother lied to contestants about who faced the axe.

Brunel University student Vanessa sobbed as housemates were asked to choose between her and Zimbabwean cardiac nurse Makosi as the two contestants who got the fewest public votes out of the six up for eviction.

One-by-one contestants chose her for eviction, except for pal Kemal who voted to keep Vanessa in.

The business studies student, who was described by several national newspapers as being boring, was booed by some people in the crowd as she was led from the house by presenter Davina McCall.

Vanessa, who had been in the house for 51 days, told Davina during her post-eviction interview: "That was really hard to go through. The worst was having to see Kemal, one of my best friends, having to be put on the spot and choose between me and Makosi.

"The way I was evicted was really, really horrid. I was so shocked I thought it was another lie."

She added: "I thought it was going to be both of us, I thought it was going to be a double eviction."

According to one national newspaper Vanessa has accused television bosses of covering up racist comments made by contestants in the Big Brother house.

She said Channel 4 had deliberately edited racist comments from the show in order to cover them up.

Her dad, Joe Layton-McIntosh, drove to the Big Brother house last Friday suspecting his daughter might be evicted.

He said he was looking forward to seeing Vanessa again.

"I'm very proud of her to have got this far. But I'm looking forward to seeing her again."
