A group of martial artists proved they have the fight stuff when it comes to raising money for charity.

The Phoenix Martial Arts Association raised £30,000 for the Royal Marsden Hospital's Cancer Campaign with a series of sponsored fights.

The group's 24 instructors fought 300 students over three hours to raise money towards the hospital's £30million campaign to create a new diagnostic unit for people with suspected breast and prostate cancer, and state-of-the-art operating theatres.

Stephen Brooks, from Purley, who led the group, said: "Raising such a substantial amount of money and knowing we are contributing to making a difference in the lives of those affected by cancer is a hard feeling to beat."
