This week Kim Theobald and her son, Jack, seven, review Knockhatch Adventure Park

After enjoying an hour's relaxation in the sun while Jack raced up and down the toboggan run I finally saw him walking towards me with a big grin but so wet and dirty I wasn't convinced Little Chef would let us in.

Knockhatch Adventure Park is as commercialised as Legoland is dull and therefore provides a completely different family day out.

The park has a small collection of farmyard animals as well as birds of prey and shows are held during the day.

Petrol go-karts are available at an extra charge, four to seven-year-olds £2.50 and eight to adult £3.50. The laser adventure game costs £3.25 for half an hour.

Six trampolines, two swing-balls and two football goals are available at no extra charge, but at busy times there will be a queue and a time limit for the trampolines.

Rowing boats can be hired for free on the beautiful lake at the far end of the park; next to the river is a large wooden play area and toboggan run. Take a change of clothes though as the children do get wet on the toboggan run and a little bit muddy.

For a returnable deposit of £1 each the crazy golf course is good fun, not too big, but in need of some updating.

With plenty of open space and grass this is a great place to spread out, most visitors bring a picnic which is recommended as sandwiches aren't sold; burgers, salads and jacket potatoes are.

For the smaller ones there is a sand pit with ride-on toys and an indoor bouncy castle.

Adults £7.25; children £6.25; seniors and extra child £5.25; family of four £25.

Knockhatch Adventure Park is on the main Eastbourne Road, Hailsham, and is signposted.
