With reference to your front page story Festive booze ban' (Croydon Guardian, August 10).

So it seems likely that a third of Croydon pubs could be closed over Christmas due to licensing problems. Well at least it will give their hard-working staff a welcome break.

It may sound surprising but a commercialised secular Christmas has an entirely different meaning to the Christian community.

It is not all about eating and drinking but a celebration of the greatest event in history, the birth of Christ.

Thousands of churches across the world with thousands of Christians will have something really worthwhile to celebrate.

Wouldn't it be wonderful if we could return to that old-time religion? The gospel of peace and forgiveness and reconciliation and healing of nations.

God is calling us to himself; please don't leave the Christ out of Christmas.
