Kathie joins fight against breast cancer

HARROW resident Kathie Sayer has joined the fight against breast cancer and is taking part in the Weekend Walk to Breakthrough Breast Cancer'.

Kathie, 38, from Larkfield Avenue is taking part in the walk as she was diagnosed with a Grade 3 carcinoma in January and despite undergoing a mastectomy and chemotherapy has been well enough to train regularly.

Kathie said: ' Being able to take part in the walk was a personal goal, to help me fight this disease. It has been an enormous challenge both physically and mentally I wanted to make a bold statement, and am determined to complete the walk. Most of my friends think that I have taken leave of my senses, but on 23-25 September I will prove them wrong!'' Kathie is looking for sponsors, both individuals and corporate to help raise funds for charity. To date £800 has been raised, but she is looking at a final target of £2,000.

Approximately 41,000 women are diagnosed each year with the disease, as well as about 3000 men. Around 13,000 women die from the disease each year, which equals 35 per day.

The weekend of 23 -25 September will see thousands of men and women will be taking to the streets of London in the first UK 60 kilometer charity walk for Breakthrough.

All the proceeds from the weekend will fund the critical work of Breakthrough Breast Cancer, who is committed to fighting the disease through research and education. The ultimate work of the charity is to eradicate breast cancer by discovering its causes, finding methods of prevention and developing new treatments.
