May 2, 2006. Merton Chamber of Commerce. Over £1 million of London Development Agency money has been won to support local business, it was announced at the Merton Chamber Annual General Meeting on 27th April.

Speaking at the event, Diana Sterck, Chief Executive of the Chamber said that the money had been won by both the Chamber of Commerce and the Council through two bids. The Chamber led bid, worth £600k over 3 years, was to support 1000 businesses across 5 boroughs in waste and energy management. The Chamber would also be working with the Council on its bid to support 100 Mitcham based businesses in business start up and development. This work was part of a comprehensive proposal to provide training and employment support to local people, as well as town centre management.

She went on to comment "This money has been won for Merton because of the proven track records of the agencies involved as well as commitment to true partnership working. The projects will help the Chamber of Commerce work with more businesses than ever before."

Merton Chamber's AGM was held in the delightful setting of the Cannizaro House Hotel on Wimbledon Common with over 60 businesses attending.
