Married couple Peter and Jane Murton live with their four sons Denholm, 16, Jarod, seven, Drew, six, and four-year-old Joel.

Risising council tax bills are their primary electoral concern.

The family, who live in Windermere Road, Coulsdon, say the council is spending money generated from Croydon's taxpayers disproportionately.

Peter said: "I guess for us as a family the main issue is the cost of the council tax.

"We've been here eight years and we reckon that the cost of the council tax has doubled in those eight years.

"The way we see it is that in Coulsdon and Purley we are paying a high level of council tax, we have the least unemployed but council money seems to be going towards the regeneration of areas like the north of the borough and New Addington.

"We get the impression that we generate a lot of the council income but it doesn't seem that we get a fair share of that money."

Whichever party takes control of the town hall on May 4 the Murtons hope the issue of recycling will be tackled to a greater degree.

Peter said: "My little bugbear is recycling.

"I would like the council to bring it up to scratch.

"I don't think the current council is doing enough to ensure that recycling levels are in line with our neighbouring boroughs and the rest of Europe."

Despite their concerns at the increased council tax Mr and Mrs Murton both feel that the current Labour council is providing Croydon residents with an adequate service.

Jane said: "At the moment we think the service the council provides is reasonable.

"To be honest there is nothing that we can be really positive about but on the whole they seem to do a very competent job."

The Murtons are undecided about which party they will vote for, but did say that if given the choice they would vote for a Green Party candidate.
