Croydon Conservatives six key pledges include: l Security: The introduction of uniformed neighbourhood enforcement officers in every ward to provide a visible deterrent to antisocial behaviour who also have the powers to deal with it.

l Value for money: A pledge to keep council tax increases below four per cent a year and below the rate of inflation once the party has sorted out the council's finances, while protecting key services.

l A better environment: A promise to restore the current kerbside recycling service to all homes and include plastic, cardboard and green garden waste.

l Safer streets without more speed humps: The Conservatives say they would not install any more speed humps and will use other methods of controlling traffic in residential roads, which are more effective and better for the environment.

l Sensitive development: The protection of the character of the town by preventing development on green beltland insensitive high-rise and in-fill development.

l A sense of community: The piloting of national Tory Party leader David Cameron's proposal for voluntary community service for all school leavers, giving teenagers something productive to do, help develop their potential and build a sense of community between people from different backgrounds and walks of life.
