Croydon's Liberal Democrat Party say their commitment to environmental issues is demonstrated by the launch of their manifesto online instead of on paper. Their key points include:

l Tackling crime: By strengthening safer neighbourhood teams to combat graffiti and vandalism more effectively, remove and dispose of abandoned vehicles promptly, the creation of a rapid response team to tackle rubbish-dumping, fly-posting and graffiti.

l Protecting the environment: Expanding door-to-door recycling collection, reduce the amount of waste dumped in landfill sites, reducing the council's energy consumption by 20 per cent in four years and reduce the council's consumption of water, the promotion of green travel schemes for council employees, will plant two trees for any one removed.

l Improving local transport: By pressing train companies to incorporate rail travel into the pre-pay Oystercard system, press for the Gatwick Express to stop at East Croydon, supporting the extension of Tramlink into areas where the existing transport infrastructure is poor, expansion of cycle paths to encourage cyclists and protect pedestrians.

l Sorting out Croydon's finances: By freezing councillors' allowances for the first 12 months, then bringing them into line with the average outer London allowance, drastically reducing the cost of Croydon's use of landfill sites, the scrapping of free parking for councillors and senior officers.
