It's been 15 years since the hideous Tory MP Alan B'Stard graced our television screens in The New Statesman. But reviving his sleazy creation for the stage, Rik Mayall proves B'Stard fits surprisingly well with New Labour after defecting from the Conservatives.

Seamlessly transformed from a corrupt and seedy Tory MP to an, er, corrupt and seedy New Labour MP, we see money-grabbing B'Stard living next door to Tony and Cherie at 9 Downing Street.

The writers are doing their best to keep this satirical production topical by updating it with fresh political gags each week.

However, with some cast members Mayall included fluffing their lines on more than one occasion, you have to question whether the format works better as a television show.

The New Statesman stopped off at the New Wimbledon Theatre last week and comes to the Churchill Theatre in Bromley on May 29 for a six-night run.

Tickets are priced between £19 and £22 which are available from 0870 060 6620.
