I agree with K Pope of Thornton Heath (Letters, April 19) that the north of the borough is far from clean, green or safe.
The A23 at Norbury is one of the most polluted roads in London with rubbish dumped on it and the side roads are not much better.
How is it that CCTV cameras never see the culprits?
Our main road has no baker or butcher (apart from halal butchers) but does possess some 35 eating establishments, 16 hairdressers and umpteen shops selling fruit and vegetables.
Very few of those have any interest in the environment. Pavements are dirty and not helped by the increase in spitting that now takes place and quite frankly they need to be hosed down and disinfected on a regular basis.
Indeed a few weeks ago someone had been sick by the kitchen door to one of the restaurants and it was left there for several days till the rain washed it away.
Regrettably not too many people actually care, which is hard for those who do.
