Striders of Croydon had 15 finishers in the Sutton 10k road race at Beddington Park on Sunday, which was the first race in this season's Surrey Road league.
Striders were led home by Pawel Bal, who covered the course in 39 minutes three seconds, finishing 44th of the 409 runners. Dave Batten ran well to came fourth in the over50 category and 57th overall, recording 39 minutes 54. Long-distance specialist Dave Shaw was 73rd (41.17) with Richard Edwards 89th (42.13). Striders finished 10th out of the 27 competing teams.
Striders' women were not at full strength, with some of their leading runners not having recovered from the London Marathon. However, there were good runs by Jan Baldwin (64.04) and Jacqui Mazur (64.05), keeping the team's league hopes alive.
