Science lovers in the borough are invited to join a new caf club set up by Croydon's outgoing mayor Maggie Mansell.
As part of her year in office which ends later this month Councillor Mansell has launched Croydon's first Caf Scientifique a monthly event which will enable people to explore the latest ideas in science and technology.
Guest speakers will include Radio 4's Quentin Cooper presenter of science programme The Material World and Dr Sheila Ochugboju, Croydon's own biomedical science communicator.
Coun Mansell said: "So many areas of our lives and business are based on scientific developments and, as a biomedical scientist, I want others to know that science is fun.
"The theme of my mayoral year has been celebrating science and I cannot think of a better legacy than the introduction of Croydon's first Caf Scientifique. This will be a forum for discussing science issues and hopefully encourage more people to enjoy science too," she added.
The first Caf Scientifique will take place at the Clocktower Caf in Katharine Street next Tuesday from 6.30pm to 8pm.
