Gold Coast Bar and Restaurant owner William Quagraine is hoping to bring some spice into people’s lives by getting his famous chilli sauce on to supermarket shelves.
The Ghanaian-born chef uses scotch bonnet peppers as the secret weapon in the Chef’s Special Sauce, which is already on sale in jars from Mr Quagraine’s branches in South Norwood and Brixton.
But the restaurateur is hoping to expand his business on to the high street after promising initial consultation with several stores.
Mr Quagraine and his wife Fran made their TV debut on the BBC cooking programme ‘The Hairy Bikers’ in February, showing off some of their signature dishes including Akonfem - guinea fowl - and yam balls.
The self-styled ‘gastro-pub with an Afro twist’ has been attracting visitors from across the UK since opening in 2004, and is a popular haunt of Premiership footballers including Chelsea’s Michael Essien.
It boasts a popular beer garden and barbecue, and the place is often packed out when Ghana take to the field in international football competitions.
