Darren Ambrose hailed Crystal Palace's escape from relegation on Sunday as the best moment of his career.

The winger scored the Eagles' goal that ultimately kept them up in a 2-2 draw against Sheffield Wednesday and was lost for words after the game.

"There's nothing that tops that," he said.

"I have had a few big games in my career including a UEFA Cup semi-final with Newcastle in 2004 but this has been absolutely fantastic, I am lost for words.

"I am absolutely delighted and I haven't scored a more important goal than that.

"I would have liked it to be the winner but for me it is as to keep us in this league is just fantastic and that's credit to all the players.

"It's been an absolute nightmare off the scene, we all knew that, but we have tried to block it out of our minds and we have done that.

"When that whistle went it was a moment of relief and delight."

Ambrose's strike on Sunday was his 20th of the season, a career best for him.

"I have been wanting to get it for the last four games so it's a relief," he said.

"I have said before it didn't matter who scored the goals so long as we stayed in this league as we deserve it.

"It's unbelievable and I am delighted I was the one.

"I have loved my year here.

"It was a decision I made to come from Charlton Athletic to the local rivals and it has just been an absolutely fantastic year on and off the pitch."

The 26-year-old also had special praise for manager Paul Hart, who joined the club with 14 games to go after Neil Warnock left for QPR in March.

"In the dressing room after, Paul said thanks not just for the result and not just for staying in the league but thanks for being there for him," said Ambrose.

"He said he has had a fantastic two months and he has been a good manager for us.

"At the end of the day we are still in the league and that's fantastic."
