The Mayor of Sutton was re-elected at this Monday’s full council meeting to serve a second consecutive term.

Councillor Margaret Court, representing Wandle Valley, is the third member to serve as Sutton’s first citizen for consecutive terms and the first for more than 30 years.

She said that she was honoured to be chosen. “It is a great privilege to be Sutton’s first citizen, and the opportunity to continue to carry out this public role is very special to me, and a highlight of my 16 years as councillor,” she said.

Cllr Ruth Dombey, Sutton’s Deputy Leader, said: “Margaret has been an immensely popular mayor and has touched the lives of scores of people across the borough.”

Cllr Court has been a councillor since 1994.

She said: “I have to say, a sense of togetherness is thriving in Sutton. It’s something that makes our borough very different and very special.”
