A woman was murdered in Croydon last night.

Detectives from the Homicide and Serious Crime Command launched an investigation following the discovery of a body of a woman in Croydon last night.

Police were called to an address in Miller Road, Croydon at 8.15pm last night where they found the lifeless body of the woman, aged in her 50s. It is believed she had been assaulted.

London Ambulance Service attended and the woman was pronounced dead at the scene.

Officers believed they know the identity of the dead woman and are in the process of informing next of kin. A post mortem will be scheduled in due course.

A 34-year-old man was arrested at the scene and is currently in custody at a south London police station.

The investigation is being led by DCI Mandy Hargreaves from the HSCC based at Sutton.

Officers continue to investigate the circumstances of the murder.
