The Eagles have pledged to raise money for cancer charity Marie Curie this season.

Crystal Palace players aim to raise £500,000 to fund 25,000 hours of free Marie Curie nursing care for the terminally ill.

Karen Green, Marie Curie volunteer, said: "My mum, Elsie Sands, was looked after at home by Marie Curie Nurses before she died, so I have first-hand experience of the unbelievable work their nurses do."

The Eagles launched the partnership by leading Marie Curie Cancer Care Mascots Josie Dee, Nathan Slack, David Kelly and Amy Danton onto the pitch for the start of the pre-season friendly game against Chelsea.

George Burley, Crystal Palace FC manager said: "Marie Curie Cancer Care is appealing to Eagles fans to get involved in any way they can to help reach the fundraising goal.

"It can be as easy or hard as you like from volunteering to do a charity collection before the game on 30th October, 2010 and 2nd April, 2011, at Selhurst Park, climbing Kilimanjaro or even coming up with your own fundraising event."
