A seven-month-old baby boy was hurled into the path of an oncoming double-decker bus during a fight as shocked commuters watched in horror.

The infant was snatched from the arms of his 13-year-old sister by a teenage girl and flung into the bus lane outside West Croydon station.

Miraculously Tavish Dabedeen survived with minor injuries and bruising after the unprovoked attack on his family.

Two girls, believed to attend the same school as his 13-year-old sister, launched a ferocious attack on the whole family just seconds before one of them grabbed hold of Tavish and threw him in the road.

Distraught members of the public crowded around the tiny baby to see if he was alive and offer their assistance to his frantic family.

Tavish’s empty pram stood within the police cordon after cops sealed off the area next to the station on Tuesday evening, last week.

Eyewitness Mark Marshall, from Evans Cycles, said: “It’s a disgusting incident that still leaves a sour taste in my mouth.

“What goes through a person’s mind to do something like that?

“I thought someone had been hit by a car when we saw all the people standing around looking in the road, then when I realised it was a small baby my heart just sank.

“Whatever happens to that girl happens, her parents should be ashamed of her.”

Tavish’s father, Rajiv Dabedeen, told how police broke the news as he went to pick up his wife, baby son and his daughters.

The 42-year-old Croydon businessman said: “I was distraught, my son could have been killed, and my wife and daughters were attacked in broad daylight.

“I was only minutes away from picking them up when I got the call from the police telling me they had been attacked.

“We were all so relieved when the scans came back from hospital giving Tavish the all-clear, it could have ended much worse.

“In my culture we say every baby has its own angel and our son must have his.

“How could someone do that to a defenceless child, what kind of human being could hurt a baby?

“He is lucky to be alive, he hit his head and had bumps and bruises but other than that he is fine.”

The attack happened at 7pm last Tuesday after Mr Dabedeen’s daughter, who was being bullied at school because of a skin condition, ran into one of her bullies.

The Croydon schoolgirl suffers from vitiligo, which means patches of her skin lose pigmentation and appear discoloured and blotchy.

She was confronted by her bully while shopping in Primark with her mother and baby brother.

She went downstairs into the children’s section to avoid the bully and her mother remonstrated with the girl after overhearing her bragging about harassing her daughter.

The father-of-three added: “I have called the school about this, Croydon Council, the police, but nothing has been done and now this has happened. The council told me it could move my daughter to another school but not the bully – it’s disgusting.”

The family was followed by the girls to West Croydon station where they launched an attack on them, hitting Mr Dabedeen’s wife and daughter.

It was during this attack the baby was taken from the girl’s arms and thrown into the road.

A spokesman for Croydon police said: “A 14-year-old girl was arrested later the same day and taken to a south London police station. She has been bailed until September pending further inquiries. ”
