Seven people have been arrested after a man was seriously injured in an early morning bottle attack.

The victim, believed to be in his 20s, was found by police with three puncture wounds to his back near West Croydon station at about 2.20am.

A spokesman for the London Ambulance Service said the man was conscious and treated at the scene before being taken to hospital.

His wounds, which police believe were caused by a broken bottle, were described as serious but not life-threatening, and he has since been discharged.

One man was initially arrested nearby on suspicion of causing grievous bodily harm, and was also taken to hospital with minor hand injuries.

London Rd was closed at 2.50am between Hathaway Rd and Nova Rd, but has since reopened.
